We’ve all seen in the media about the health benefits of open water swimming. After giving up triathlons due to ongoing injuries I started to enjoy my swimming a bit more. Swimming in a pool can get a bit repetitive so really started embracing open water swimming. For me it is the time in the week where I am really able to switch off from work and home and just enjoy the peace and quiet of the area I’m swimming.

In March I will be taking part in the Scottish Winter Swimming Championships. This is an open water ice swim in water between 1 and 5 degrees wearing nothing more than swimming jammers (long trunks!) and a swim hat. Its obviously going to be incredibly cold given it’s in a lake in the Cairngorms!
