Suffolk Mind offers a range of opportunities to join us as a counsellor, either as a volunteer, or on a placement.
About the service
We operate a self-referral, easy-to-access counselling service. Our service is for any Suffolk resident aged 18+. Clients come to our counselling service for a variety of reasons, but these could be relationships, family issues, personal crisis, bereavement, or other problems they may be dealing with. We offer counselling in Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich, Saxmundham, online via Zoom and by telephone.

If you would like to become a counsellor with Suffolk Mind, either on placement or as a volunteer, below is a summary of the main tasks and requirements.
What we expect:
Suffolk Mind’s Counselling service has the below counsellor roles available, which can be either on placement or voluntary (qualified).
If you are interested, please complete our application form and submit it to counselling@suffolkmind.org.uk for the attention of Lee Harger, the Counselling Manager. Please ensure that you have specified the position in which you are interested on your application form.

| Ipswich | Seeing three clients on a Wednesday evening at 5.30pm, 6.30pm and 7.30pm | Online supervision group 3rd Friday of the month 5pm to 7pm. Please note that this position is to start mid-October 2026 |
| Bury St Edmunds | Seeing three clients on a Monday evening at 5.30pm, 6.30pm and 7.30pm | Online supervision group 2nd Tuesday of the month 8.30am to 10.30am |
| Bury St Edmunds | Seeing three clients on a Thursday morning at 9am, 10am and 11am | Online supervision group 3rd Tuesday of the month 8.30am to 10.30am |
| Bury St Edmunds | Seeing three clients on a Friday morning at 9.30am, 10.30am and 11.30am | Online supervision group 4th Friday of the month 5pm to 7pm. Please note that this position is to start in November 2026 |
| Bury St Edmunds | Seeing three clients on a Friday afternoon at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm | Online supervision group 1st Monday of the month 5pm to 7pm. Please note that this position is for a CBT Therapist. If you are interested in the role, please let us know. However, please be aware that the online group will be different |
