Power of AI to help people find mental health support
Suffolk Mind are proud to partner with Suffolk Libraries in launching a free new tool that helps people find local wellbeing services and events.
Together with AI Business of the Year finalist Orbital Global, we have created the Discover More tool, a search engine which utilises artificial intelligence to tailor pick recommendations for people based on their interests and Emotional Needs Survey results.
Jon Neal, our CEO, said: “Discover More takes our Emotional Needs Survey to the next level in helping all of us to look after our own mental health and wellbeing.
“We’re excited about the potential for this tool to enable more people to access projects, activities and resources that support them to meet their emotional needs, thereby avoiding stress and staying at the wellbeing point on the Mental Health Continuum.”
Completing the Emotional Needs Survey is a quick and easy process which sees people score the ways in which they are meeting their 12 physical and emotional needs.
Results are used not just to help people identify areas of their life which need attention, but aid us in gaining a better understanding of the local mental health picture
Bruce Leeke, CEO of Suffolk Libraries, said the organisation will continue to evolve its services to meet the wellbeing needs of more people.
He added: “The launch of Discover More represents another big step in our ambition to make the library service a fulcrum for better community wellbeing.
“As the NHS enters a new era of integrated care, with more join-up with community-based support, Discover More offers a new way for people to understand what support is available and how it can help them to improve their wellbeing.
“Discover More is there for everyone, so why not sign up and see what’s out there for you!”
Discover More has been made possible thanks to funding from Arts Council England and Suffolk County Council. Further financial support was also made available from the Nesta Foundation and the European Union
Hayden Allen-Vercoe, CEO of Orbital Global, said: “As the technical lead for the Discover More project, building an AI-powered search engine that understands and responds to individual wellbeing needs was a complex challenge.
“We had to carefully curate vast amounts of data from various sources, develop sophisticated algorithms to analyse user preferences, and design an intuitive user interface.
“The most rewarding aspect has been seeing how Discover More empowers individuals to connect with local services and activities that genuinely improve their lives.
“It’s a testament to the power of AI when used for positive social impact.”
Luke Burton, Director, Libraries of Arts Council England, added: “We are delighted to support Suffolk Libraries in launching their groundbreaking search engine.
“This innovative platform demonstrates the power of technology to enhance community wellbeing, and is an inspiring example of how libraries can lead the way in improving lives and bringing communities together.”
