Our Board of Trustees ensure that our charity has a clear vision together with agreed goals and objectives. Trustees review performance against agreed financial and operational targets and advise management on policy matters. Our Trustees are drawn from a range of backgrounds and have diverse skills and qualifications to provide Suffolk Mind with balanced and valuable support. Our trustees are our ambassadors in the community and many of our trustees have direct or indirect experience of mental health issues, outside of their work with Suffolk Mind.
Nigel Suckling has a background in commercial and operational management including, procurement & facilities and budgetary management, strategy development, project management, and change management. Nigel is chairman of the finance sub-committee and was elected chairman of the board in March 2015.
Dr Emma Brierly joined Suffolk Mind in 2014. Emma is a local GP with over 20 years experience in the NHS. Emma has had a broad based experience of primary care in the inner city settings of Ipswich and Brighton. She now works in Kesgrave. Emma is particularly interested in Women’s health, Care of the Elderly and Psychiatry.
Andrew George is a lawyer with a breadth of experience gained from private and public sectors in the UK and overseas.
Alan Hanson has expertise in general management with a marketing, financial and contractual law background, having been MD of three transport companies. Alan is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Professional Administrators and chairs the people and pay sub-committee and is also the Treasurer.
David McQuade joined Suffolk Mind as a Trustee in2014. David is the CEO of Flagship Housing, a not for profit organisation providing more than 22,000 homes across East Anglia. David brings extensive housing and management experience to the Board.
Ciara Scallon joined Suffolk Mind in 2015. Ciara is an experienced, business development and relationship management professional in the professional services and not-for-profit sectors, in the UK and abroad. She is currently Corporate Development Manager at Aldeburgh Music at the Snape Maltings Concert Hall, (part-time) and continues to run her own business offering SMEs an ad hoc resource in market development.
Julian Tyndale-Biscoe is an experienced journalist and editor with well-established media contacts and over 10 years’ experience within the UK health sector. Julian joined Suffolk Mind in 2011. Julian is Vice Chair of the Board of trustees.
Tim Mutum joined the Board in January 2016. Tim has considerable previous experience as a charity trustee for Headway Suffolk and Crohn's and Colitis UK. Tim's current positions include Chairman of Ipswich Hospital Inflammatory Bowel Disease Patient Panel, Chairman of South Suffolk Leisure, Member of the Ipswich Hospital User Group and Patient representative on the Charitable Funds Committee of Ipswich Hospital. Until 2012 Tim worked in Local Government for 40 years.
Ian White joined Suffolk Mind in April 2016 as a member of the Board and the Finance, Audit and Performance Sub-Committee. Ian is a Chartered Accountant and the Managing Director of Becketts, a Wealth Management Company based in Bury St Edmunds. Prior to this, Ian worked for many years in the healthcare sector, specifically in companies focussed on delivering support in the Mental Health sector.
