WSM Art Groups
West Suffolk Mind runs art groups for people recovering from mental illness.
These are weekly groups in a supportive, confidential environment. We have a selection of art and craft materials which you can try out. Group members work at their own project and enjoy sharing skills and ideas with each other. The facilitators are happy to suggest a project if you are not sure where to begin
Doing something creative can help you to relax and serve as helpful distraction from the anxiety that is often present during mental illness. Being part of a friendly, supportive group can help to rebuild confidence and motivation. Above all doing something creative in a group is enjoyable and inspiring – we get so many good ideas from each other.
Sometimes there is a waiting list to join a group.

WSM Creative Writing Group
West Suffolk Mind offers creative writing groups for people recovering from mental illness.
These are weekly groups in a supportive, confidential environment.
Writing can be therapeutic, sometimes relaxing and uplifting, sometimes challenging and poignant. Working in a structured group can help to rebuild confidence. It gives you the chance to sit down and write with help and encouragement.
If you are a budding wordsmith, we can help you to produce a portfolio of creative writing, based on your own unique ideas and experience. Group members are encouraged to contribute to our quarterly magazine.
An experienced facilitator will guide you through exercises and activities to help you unlock your own writing talent.
There is sometimes a waiting list to join these groups.

WSM Music Group
Mindset – West Suffolk Mind’s very own band
Mindset is the public side of a music group at West Suffolk Mind. The music group’s aim is to give members the opportunity to express themselves through music. From small beginnings it has grown into a well subscribed group. It doesn’t matter if you can’t play any instruments. If you can sing – that’ll do.
Mindset’s music is an eclectic mixture of modern music – anything from the 60’s onwards. The aim of the group is to get members to perform publicly. We do this by playing at local charity events and to raise money for West Suffolk Mind.
Much of the publicly performed music is written by the members. We have several very prolific writers.
Both staff and volunteers work to encourage members to explore the creative side of their nature. This is achieved on a group basis as well as on a one to one basis through group performance of original material and one to one tuition and advice.
Having the opportunity to express what is inside us all through music is a wonderfully therapeutic experience.
It’s also great fun!
Mindset keeps getting better and better. As the writing side grows our set list gets better. We’ll make you dance and we’ll make you sing!
