Mindset rock Stowmarket

The Mind the Road Tour 2007 continued with Mindset playing the Artheads (1) event at the Museum Of East Anglian Life.

Set in a colourfully lit old barn on the museum site, Mindset played for 40 minutes. Of the twelve numbers covered eight were written by members of the band.

First up was Lynne with her powerful renditions of Back to bed and Can’t stand being without you, both self penned. Simon then sang his wonderful version of the old Doors number People are strange.

It was then James’ turn to demonstrate his songwriting prowess with two of his songs – If you love me and Called last night.

Maria and James then dueted with Sorrow, Ruth sang Perfect (how does she get those high notes?), and Ruth was joined by Simon for Mad world.

Gerard’s version of Lennon’s Jealous Guy”was hauntingly performed with Steve on a solitary acoustic guitar - excellent stuff.

Steve was then joined by Maria for the final three songs, Steve’s melodic masterpieces Alright Now, Fishing Vessel and Blue Skies.

I mustn’t forget to mention the rest of the band - thanks to Saira for her pulsating rhythms on percussion that holds the band together, Julian on bass guitar with his riveting and intuitive bass lines. Thanks also to Chris and Dec for all they have done to make the band so successful.

(1) Artheads
A Right Bunch Of Artheads was conceived by members of the substance misuse implementation team early in 2006. The project was initially intended to be a small scale art show to promote the work of individuals with substance misuse issues. It has grown from that point into something much bigger and its aims have evolved as the project itself has developed. So far we have put on a two day art show in Bury, and two evenings of live music, poetry and performance in other local towns. We have another event planned for Haverhill then its back to Bury for another two day show in Jan 08. The organizers hope the events show that people with drug and alcohol problems are capable of making a positive impact; they can be creative, determined, committed and most importantly capable of change.
