Respite Service

The Cornerhouse Respite Service.

The Criteria

The service user has a mental health diagnosis, receives CPA input and has a Carer who supports them.  Respite is available for over 18’s only.  Respite should be agreed following a Carers assessment in which it would identify how much respite the service user is entitled to and the reasons for respite need.

A planned respite break would enable the Carer to take a break from their caring responsibilities for a few days up to a two week stay at a time.

We provide support with all daily living needs, physical and mental health support, financial needs, social skills and relationships, meaningful activities / employment, spiritual and cultural needs i.e. support normally provided by the Carer - however we are unable to provide meals for people, provide personal care or administer medications.  However we do prompt, advise, support service users to become independent and regain lost or new skills.

Funding

The Respite bed is funded, the only costs incurred by the service user are their own meals, drinks, activity expenses etc during their stay.  We have additional funding for 15 nights per year should a service user require support at night.

Referral process

A visit will be arranged and your support needs discussed.  Should the service user feel the Cornerhouse is somewhere they would like to receive respite an application can be completed and returned to the project along with a current CPA, risk assessment etc, this is then discussed with the team, should it be decided that we can offer respite the team then contact the care co-ordinator and arrange respite.

The first stay would be booked in agreement of the care co-ordinator, should the respite stay go well, the person can then book directly with the project.

The Cornerhouse also provides support to 5 service users, the service is 24 hour support with a sleep in staff member at night and the staff team is made up of a Team leader, 4 full time support workers and 2 part time support workers.
